Free Resource Center for Homeowners with Winter Damage Concerns
February 19,2016 — The phones at U.S. Waterproofing have been ringing off the hook this winter, more than ever before due to the drastic changes in temperature this winter. Extreme temperatures on both ends are causing gradual damage to basements all over Chicago. Many homeowners are calling with questions about basement seepage and foundation cracking that they’ve never seen before in the winter. And since many homeowners are preparing for the Spring real estate market, the urgency to fix these issues is heightened.
“We saw very high precipitation levels in January which led to an increase in basement seepage issues. Another problem this winter has been when the temperature goes from freeze-to-thaw and then back to freezing again, it leads to significant cracking in foundation walls. As the snow or ice melts, these cracks provide a pathway for water to seep into your basement, resulting in damage to drywall, carpeting and personal belongings. It can also contribute to decreased indoor air quality if mold starts to grow.
